Caring is Normal

Leather Goods

Leather is an incredible material that can be extremely durable and delicate at the same time. It is worth the labor investment to make lovely things, because they will last. Inferior materials, such as genuine leather and ‘vegan’ leather crack over a relatively short time, since they are largely coated with plastic. By design, they are used by fast fashion manufacturers that are not concerned with the lifespan of their goods, or their ultimate home, filling our landfills. Leather is a byproduct of the agricultural industry, and helps reduce waste in meat and dairy production.

We carefully select all the materials that we use to optimize the longevity of our products. Our leathers are all top grain or full grain cowhide, the highest quality grades of leather. We are always on the lookout for long lasting materials for our product line, and pair our goods with all metal zippers, and high quality metal buckles and hardware.

Protected Top Grain Leather
(Our current line of colorful bags and personal accessories)

This is very low maintenance leather. Marks can be wiped off with a damp cloth, or gently cleaned with a leather cleaner.

Naked Top Grain Leather
(The black leather in our current line of bags and personal accessories)

Marks can be wiped off with a damp cloth. Occasional leather conditioner use will add to the supple nature of the bag’s texture.

Full Grain Vegetable Tanned Leather
(Some of our home goods, wallets and strap backing in natural shade and/or black)

May be naked or hand-dyed. vegetable-tanned leather. Over time, lighter tones will age and darken. Use leather conditioner containing beeswax sparingly to preserve the leather’s surface and supple texture. Avoid contact with water. To prevent bleeding when wet, a water-resistant leather sealant may be added.

Full Grain Latigo
(Our belts and collars)

Pebbled, Semi-Aniline Goods
(Our discontinued line of bags and personal accessories)

To clean, do a spot test with aniline leather cleaner before using as described, or take to a professional. Minor spots may be able to be patted with a barely moist cloth with leather cleaner. Condition with a leather conditioner appropriate for aniline leather, spot testing to check for darkening.

Other Goods

Practicality and ease of use are the two core factors we consider when selecting materials, because we want to design goods that people actually use. If maintenance is easy, it will lead to a long life for our products, and ultimately our clients will have to buy less.

Acrylic Rugs

To clean, vacuum with beater bar/brush roll turned OFF, and pass over the rug in multiple directions. Spot clean stains with a carpet cleaner appropriate for synthetic materials, according to their specifications. Do not wash in the washing machine, or put in the dryer.

Wood Home Goods

Wood items are unfinished, so please avoid water. Dust when needed.

Prints

Our prints are all letterpress prints on acid-free paper. Put them in frames, and avoid long term direct sunlight.
